New Clip Shows Harley and Joker’s Bad Romance

With only a few weeks until Joker: Folie à Deux hits theaters, Warner Bros. is kicking things into high gear by drip-feeding prospective moviegoers with sneak peek clips and trailers for director Todd Phillips’ sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as the unhinged clown couple. One of the two scenes released today spotlights Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn’s unorthodox relationship.

In “The Real You,” an exclusive clip uploaded to IMDb’s YouTube channel, Harley Quinn consoles Arthur before his court hearing. Not for good behavior, mind you, but because the powers that be think Arthur has been a bad influence on her. Ever the optimist, Harley spins her release as a positive for the both of them because it means she’ll be able to support him from the stands in the courtroom until he gets released. Given the nature of their uncomfortably close conversation, it’s to be assumed that this exclusive clip is one of those # spoiler kind of scenes that happens midway through the movie. Perhaps a conjugal clown visit before what’s likely to be an explosive final act of the film?

Harley then trails off about them building a map for whatever reason before Arthur mumbles out that she brought makeup with her. It’s here that Lady Gaga says she wants to see the real him as she applies red eyebrows, nose, and a smile on Arthur’s face, capping off the video by saying, “It’s just us now,” as it fades to black. Given the nature of their uncomfortably close conversation, it’s to be assumed that this exclusive clip is one of those # spoiler kind of scenes that happens midway through the movie—perhaps a conjugal clown visit. Thankfully, the clip cuts off before we witness where the two go next.

While the clip above provided more information on the psychology of its main characters, the other Joker piece of media from today is your typical accolade trailer with pull quotes from publications praising the new release for being as bold and daring as the last film. The only thing of significant note is that the newly released accolade trailer, titled “That’s Life,” does a terrible job of beating the allegations that Joker 2 isn’t a musical despite playing the famous song and having Lady Gaga accompany it.  You can check it out, as well as a scene where Phoenix impersonates a terrified witness, below.

Now that we’re all properly creeped out by how well Gaga and Phoenix embody the whole psycho-killer couple vibe, we can all look forward to how Phillips’ DC movie sequel comes together in context once Joker: Folie à Deux finally releases October 4.
